Understanding The Ecosystems Of Stewardship

This Profile Series is made up of two modules: Part One – Creating And Using A Profile/Contextual Map; and Part Two – Solving The Puzzle Of Defined Destinies.

Participants who complete this portion of the Steward Development will have a unique understanding of the “soil” in which they are planting the seeds of change. Much as a successful gardener must understand the subtle differences in soil and account for variations in climate and weather, so must an effective steward recognize the important characteristics of the community that they hope to impact.

Part 1: Creating And Using A Profile/Contextual Map

This portion of the work session is designed to help participants complete a basic community profile / context map. Why perform this profile / map exercise? It is a tool meant to clarify the community identity and identify the resources needed to meet goals or address problems. It can help to engage community members in discussion and action. It serves to pinpoint where there is community interest and energy. Finally, it helps to prioritize strategies and opportunities.

The results of this profiling / mapping project are significant. There is an atmosphere of possibilities and abundance, there are new creative community connections, and the collective power and potential of the community is illustrated clearly.

Part 2: Solving The Puzzle Of Defined Destinies

The second section of this work session helps stewards use the evaluations completed in part one to gain a clear, realistic – yet optimistic – picture of the future of their community. This serves to give everyone involved a telescopic view of their community destiny.

The key here is that the steward is trained to utilize his or her community to identify those characteristics, events and industries that will bring prosperity to the community itself. By choosing “Destiny Drivers” that everyone is passionate about, a sweet spot is created at the intersection of assets, values and prosperity. The result is a shared vision that helps the community graduate from “good” to “great.”

Planning (And Planting) A Successful Garden

The Profile work session of Steward Development teaches leaders how to properly evaluate the potential and pitfalls of the changes they seek to initiate. By doing the right planning, the right planting is much easier when it comes time to grow the seeds of change.
